What to wear: Comfortable, lightweight clothing. i.e. yoga pants, leggings, hip sash optional.  No jeans please.

Classes are taught by CU Bellydance members Alura, Joanie, and Jen. 

Topics covered in class include improvisation, choreography, drills, folkloric and modern styles, and different stylizations. 

Feel free to drop in any time during the semester; classes are tailored for beginners and no dance experience is necessary.

Egyptian


Ranya Renee: Protege of Yousry Sharif and Yale graduate, Ranya dances with a traditional Egyptian flair and signature sensuality. She teaches in Midtown, Brooklyn and Flushing.

Nourhan Sharif: The leading authority of traditional Egyptian bellydance in New York City. Founder of Egyptian Academy of Oriental Dance. Nourhan teaches in Midtown and Astoria.

Cabaret


Serena Studios: Founded by the late Serena Wilson, Serena Studios is an institution in the New York bellydance world. Now run by her husband and son. Zenaide is probably the best option at the studio. Located in Midtown.

Fusion


Dalia Carella: Founder of the Dalia Carella Dance Collective, Dalia adds contemporary touches to traditional dances from Turkey and North Africa. Dunyavi gypsy dance is her signature. She teaches in Chinatown.

Bellyqueen/Kaeshi Chai: Co-founded by Kaeshi Chai and Amar Gamal, Bellyqueen has grown to 13 incredible dancers who tour internationally. They offer over 30 classes a week.

Mimi Fontana: Creator of Manhattan Tribal, Mimi is one of the primary driving forces in NYC behind the style pioneered by Fat Chance Bellydance (where Rachel Brice of Bellydance Superstars learned how to move; look her up on youtube.) She offers classes in Midtown and East Village.
